ANTI - PLAGIARISM POLICY
At Hoofddorp Research Center , we are committed to maintaining the highest standards of academic integrity and ensuring that the research published in our journals is original, authentic, and properly cited. As part of this commitment, we have a zero-tolerance policy towards plagiarism and other unethical practices in academic publishing.
This Anti-Plagiarism Policy outlines our stance on plagiarism and the procedures we follow to detect, prevent, and address any instances of plagiarism in submitted manuscripts.
1. What is Plagiarism?
Plagiarism is the act of using someone else’s work, ideas, or intellectual property without proper acknowledgment. It can take many forms, including:
Copying text from another source without citation.
Paraphrasing or rewording someone else’s ideas without giving credit.
Using unpublished work or data from another author without permission or proper acknowledgment.
Self-plagiarism: Submitting your previously published work or data without proper disclosure, or reusing substantial portions of your own previous work without acknowledgment.
2. Our Commitment to Preventing Plagiarism
We are committed to ensuring that every manuscript submitted to Hoofddorp Research Center is original and free from plagiarism. As part of this commitment, we have implemented the following procedures:
2.1 Plagiarism Detection Software
We use plagiarism detection tools to screen every manuscript for instances of copied or improperly cited content. These tools compare the submitted manuscript against a vast database of academic sources, including journals, books, articles, and websites, to identify any potential matches or similarities.
Turnitin and other plagiarism detection tools may be used to check for textual matches and potential plagiarism.
If plagiarism is detected, we review the severity and context of the match, considering whether it constitutes significant plagiarism or minor oversight.
2.2 Initial Screening by Editors
Before sending a manuscript for peer review, the editorial team conducts an initial screening of the submitted manuscript. During this process, the manuscript is checked for:
Proper formatting and adherence to submission guidelines.
Instances of plagiarism or self-plagiarism.
The accuracy of citations and references.
Manuscripts found to have significant instances of plagiarism or improper citations are rejected immediately.
3. Consequences of Plagiarism
If plagiarism is detected at any stage of the submission or publication process, we take the following actions:
Pre-Publication: If plagiarism is detected during the initial submission or peer review process, the manuscript will be rejected. The author will be notified of the plagiarism and provided with an opportunity to revise and resubmit if the issue is rectified.
Post-Publication: If plagiarism is detected after the article has been published, the article may be retracted. We will issue a public notice explaining the retraction and the reason behind it, preserving the integrity of the academic record.
Serious Cases: In cases of deliberate or extensive plagiarism, Hoofddorp Research Center reserves the right to:
Report the issue to the author’s institution or funding body.
Ban the author from submitting future manuscripts to Hoofddorp Research Center
4. Self-Plagiarism and Duplicate Submissions
Self-plagiarism occurs when authors submit the same or similar content to multiple journals without proper citation or acknowledgment of prior work. Hoofddorp Research Center follows a strict policy against duplicate submissions. Authors must:
Disclose any previously published content or data included in the manuscript.
Ensure that all previously published work is appropriately cited, and significant overlaps are avoided.
Submit manuscripts that are original and have not been submitted elsewhere.
If an author is found to have self-plagiarized, the manuscript will be rejected, and the author may be banned from submitting to our journals.
5. Author Responsibility and Ethical Guidelines
Authors have the primary responsibility for ensuring that their work is free from plagiarism and that all sources are properly cited. We encourage authors to:
Ensure that all quotations are correctly attributed and placed within quotation marks.
Properly cite all references, including articles, books, datasets, and online content, using the appropriate citation style for the journal.
Disclose any potential conflicts of interest and ensure ethical approval for any research involving human or animal subjects.
By submitting to Hoofddorp Research Center, authors confirm that their work adheres to our Anti-Plagiarism Policy, and they agree to cooperate fully in any investigation related to plagiarism.
6. Reviewers’ Role in Detecting Plagiarism
Reviewers are crucial in maintaining the integrity of the publication process. We ask that reviewers:
Evaluate the manuscript based on its academic merit and originality.
Report any suspicious or plagiarized content to the editorial team immediately.
Maintain confidentiality and avoid discussing the manuscript with others outside the peer review process.
Reviewers’ feedback on the novelty and originality of the work, alongside their recommendations, helps ensure that only high-quality, ethical research is published.
7. Education and Awareness
Hoofddorp Research Center provides resources and guidelines for authors on how to avoid plagiarism. We encourage authors to:
Familiarize themselves with proper citation practices and referencing styles.
Understand the importance of academic integrity in research and publication.
Participate in workshops or educational programs related to research ethics and plagiarism prevention.
We believe that raising awareness about plagiarism and ethical publishing practices will lead to better academic work and promote integrity across the academic community.
8. Reporting Plagiarism
If you suspect that a manuscript submitted to or published by Hoofddorp Research Center contains plagiarized content, you are encouraged to report it to the editorial team. Reports can be made confidentially, and we will investigate all claims thoroughly.
